Today the Senior Team got together for a Maths Challenge. Class teams competed against each other in two sections - multiplication grids and a Kahoot of basic facts. Well done to all of the individuals and teams that competed. It was a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents in maths. A special congratulations to Brylee from Room 1 for winning the grid competition and Kaiah from Room 1 for winning the Kahoot!

Last week with our student teacher, Miss Barry, we wrote persuasive arguments about whether or not the New Zealand Flag should be changed. This is Lara's writing.
I strongly believe that we should not change the NZ flag
We should not change the New Zealand flag for several reasons. It is the flag that our brave soldiers took to world war 1 and 2. We shouldn’t change our flag because it flew in the sky when we went to war. If the military people knew that we were going to change the flag they would feel that it is disrespectful. It has been our national flag since 1902.
Secondly I think we shouldn’t change it because we need a flag that represents our country. We also need a flag that we can be proud of. I do not think we should not change the flag because our flag is unique. It has history behind it and if we change the flag it's like losing all the amazing memories.
Third of all I think we should not change the flag because we could be spending this money more wisely. Do you think that the taxpayers are proud to be paying all this money to change the flag? We could be using this money on people that have no shelter or upgrading our local shops or improving kids education.
We should not change our flag because we could be spending the money on something more important, keeping the flag the soldiers took to war and keeping the flag that represents our country. What is the point in changing the flag if there is nothing wrong with the flag we have now?

In the past two weeks, while the Year 7 and 8s have DPE (Design Production Education), the Year 6s have worked in Room 2 on coding. For most of the Year 6s it has been completely new. We have been using the programmes on code.org We started by doing an 'Hour of Code' together which gave us a taste of what was to come. Since then we have worked at our own pace. Some work with others and challenge each other to complete tasks with the correct number of 'tiles'. It has been heaps of fun.

Today we had Bike Safety with Jono from the NZ Police. He went the safety checks for bikes and helmets. He also covered hand signals for turning and stopping. We had plenty of time to whizz around the course he made up on the courts.
